On our last night in NY we decided to treat ourselves and push the boat out @ The River Cafe. We jumped in a cab over the Brooklyn Bridge (looked amazing at night!) for our table reservation at 9pm. The restaurant entrance was incredible, they have a lush garden area with twinkly lights and a pathway to the skyline, the views were gorgeous.
As we were a little early we sat and had yummy cocktails in the bar, with a live pianist it was pretty romantic. The place was buzzing, luckily i had researched and booked ahead 6 weeks ago- def recommended on the weekends.
We were shown to our beautiful table, both seats facing outward towards the views of the NY, lit up skyline- it was perfect.
I chose a Spanish Rioja ($66) my fave and luckily one of the cheapest. A different waiter appeared for different parts of our eve- there was a water man, a wine man, an order taker man, a server man and a clearer away man.
It was a set menu, so no worrying about what costs what and thinking oh i shouldn’t go for the lobster its ridiculously overpriced. A starter, main and dessert for $120pp.
I went for the sea scallops wrapped in smoked salmon with caviar- delicious and beautifully presented.
Mike had the rabbit lasagne- small pieces of rabbit with a red wine jus and a small rabbit pasta- just yummy.
For mains i chose the rack of lamb with fondant potatoes and mint and mustard glaze. Melt in the mouth i didnt want it to end.
Mike had a huge 16oz ranch strip steak, with bone marrow potato and a red wine and mushroom marmalade. It was charcoaled and had a lovely flavour.
For dessert we told a white lie as i wanted some attention, we had the Brooklyn Bridge chocolate mousse and chocolate souffle with cream and ice cream. Both huge.
